Who We Are & Why We Exist

The M-E Half Century Scholarship Fund/Committee was formed in 2014 by former alumni representing the first 50-year graduates from the Maine-Endwell classes of 1963 and 1964.  Our long-term goal is to make this scholarship fund a significant opportunity to assist today’s students in paying for their higher education.  Awards will be made to students who either plan to continue their education in academic areas that lead to careers in public service OR who choose academic areas that lead to a different career choice but who are already certain that they will contribute to public service throughout their adult life by giving back to their community as a volunteer or providing financial assistance according to their ability.

The scholarships will be funded through donations received from those graduates who have achieved 50-year graduate status.  A fundraising drive will be held twice a year, as well as other possible events and social activities that are coordinated through the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee in conjunction with Maine-Endwell High School.  The Committee will work with each subsequent class and ask if they will share the names of their half century graduates.  Thus, each year, the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee will have the names and addresses, e-mails, etc., to use in this fundraising effort.  It is anticipated that each class, as it reaches the half century mark, will share the class list they have researched with the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee.  The hope is that all 50-year graduates will donate at least $10 a year toward the M-E Half Century Scholarship Fund and that some individuals might choose to contribute additional funds to truly make this a scholarship program in perpetuity.

 Volunteer Opportunities

The M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee is an all-volunteer organization made up of 50-year graduates of M-E HS.  Our fundraising and scholarship award activities depend on half-century graduates like you--people who care and want to give back to the school and community that gave to them in a way that supports the next generation of leaders that Maine-Endwell is known to produce.

To inquire about volunteer activities or if you are interested in serving on our Committee, please see the contact information listed above.

SUPPORT THE M-E TRADITION OF GIVING BACK.  As a half-century graduate of Maine-Endwell High School, you are an important part of the educational heritage of your alma mater.  Your gift continues the tradition of providing financial assistance to those students who are selected to receive scholarships based on their extra-curricular activities, community service and achievements during their formative years at M-E HS.  All recipients must be accepted into a higher-educational curriculum or career-training opportunity, starting in the fall.

The applicant(s) who most emulate Charlie Miller, the founding Principal of Maine-Endwell Senior High School, as demonstrated by his or her extra-curricular activities, community or school service and academic achievement, and who have been accepted into a 4 year program leading to a career in public service, will receive the Charles R. Miller Public Service Legacy Award.

The M-E Half Century Scholarship will be awarded to at least one qualified applicant no matter the choice of his or her higher educational curriculum at a 2-year college, or any trade, technical or vocational school or who will participate in an official skilled professional training program.

The M-E Half Century STEM Scholarship will be awarded to at least one senior who plans to pursue higher education at a 2- or 4-year college/university in the United States, majoring  in the sciences, computer sciences (technology), engineering, math or related fields (such as accounting or economics), otherwise known as STEM. Note that the M-E Half Century Scholarship Program has teamed with The Tatusko Family Scholarship Fund and The Roberts Family Scholarship Fund to simplify the application and selection process through a single application for consideration of a STEM Scholarship by the Funds noted above.  Although the student is applying for all 3 scholarships mentioned in this paragraph as a method of simplifying the process, a student may only be awarded a single scholarship among the three Scholarship Funds. Three individual scholarships will be awarded, one from each Fund.

Please refer to the section entitled SCHOLARSHIPS - Background, Criteria & Application Instructions for specific criteria pertaining to the scholarships available. The number of scholarships awarded in each category in any given year is directly tied to the total dollar amount of donations received.
